Sealants

Sealants are used when a tooth has an area where plaque bacteria can hide and makes it tough for us to remove.

Toothbrush bristles cannot always reach all the way into the deep pits and grooves to remove food and plaque, and with the enamel layer being so thin, it’s easy for cavities to form.

How Do They Help?

Dental sealants can be applied for both children and adults who have high decay risks.  A sealant is a plastic coating that is bonded in the grooves of the molars to help prevent decay.  They are most effective the first year the teeth are grown into the mouth as this is when they are most prone to decay.
